Learn the filesystem

Open a terminal in a disposable virtual machine. Practice listing files, moving between folders and reading a text file. Keep notes about what each command does.

Understand permissions

Create a practice file and inspect its owner and access permissions. Change permissions only on your practice files. Avoid copying administrator commands you do not understand.

Build a daily routine

Spend a short session navigating files, checking a process and reviewing a log. Take a virtual-machine snapshot before experimenting with system changes.
